What is Ixeris Chinensis?

Ixeris Chinensis is a flowering plant native to Asia that is gaining a lot of popularity due to the organic compounds and nutrients found within it. It contains beneficial compounds such as lutein, chinensiolides, and sitosterols in therapeutic quantities and can thus be used to help with several different ailments. It is prepared traditionally in China but in the west it is available in supplement form such as pills and powders.

Benefits of Ixeris Chinensis

  • Though not much research has been conducted on the effects of this herb on cancer, Initial research has shown that certain extracts of this herb cause cancer cells to die. This cell death is known as apoptosis and has been so far shown to occur mainly in liver cancer cells. More research is being conducted to find out if other types of cancers can be helped with this herb
  • It has anti-viral properties that can slow and in some cases even stop the growth of dangerous viruses such as the hepatitis B virus. Its effects on other strains of viruses is currently being studied
  • It contains lutein, which is a carotenoid vitamin that is called “the eye vitamin” by many people. It is called such due to the impact it has on eye health. It functions like an antioxidant, eliminating free radicals that can lead to macular degeneration and formation of cataracts. Elimination of free radicals in the ocular system is considered fundamental in improving and protecting eyesight with age
  • It contains plant sterols called beta-sitosterols. These are chemicals found in many plants that impact cholesterol levels within the human body. Beta-sitosterols have the effect of lowering harmful cholesterol and increasing beneficial cholesterol. The result is a much better cholesterol balance within the body which means that the chances of atherosclerosis, strokes, and heart attacks are reduced.
